Working by hand with organic materials, my work centres around promoting using slower methods of production as a way of implementing less negative impact on our environment. As well as using sustainable materials, my living moss walls become a way of inviting nature back in our urban spaces- as a way of forming a co-creative relationship between the human and natural world.
Each piece is one of a kind and uses a combination of moss types, to create a variety in texture, and shades. This particular piece uses reindeer moss, Irish moss, cushion moss and mood moss, and is attached to a board using a plastic free glue. A natural and biodegradable glue alternative, made using potato starch, making it non-toxic and solvent free. In addition to the moss, the wall also hosts origami butterflies made using plant seed paper.
The artwork is 35inch wide by 50 inch tall (w 0.89m x h 1.27m). However, the pieces can be commissioned to a certain scale, which therefore would reflect the prize. Taking into consideration the time and sourcing sufficient amount of materials, I am working on a commission rate of £1000-£5000.
Currently, the piece would need to be collected in person. Due to how delicate the materials used are, to make sure the piece is maintained it would need to be collected and transported back to where is is to be displayed.
This piece is currently priced at £950.
